Merwester Trawler (1976)
Merwester trawler (1976) - Asking price € 24.500,-
A well-maintained, seaworthy and comfortable yacht. The boat is equipped with a powerful Ford Ebro Silverstar marine diesel engine, an engine that you don’t often come across on power yachts. However this is no ordinary yacht, the ship was built for the waters of Zeeland and the Wadden Sea and a more experienced crew can sail coastal waters with it easily. The boat was used for sea fishing which - with minor modifications – it could still do.
Special attention was paid during designing to stability and sea passage, for longer trips on open water. The vessel is additionally equipped with stabilizers and a support sail. The stability is not only increased by the shape but also by the weight of the engine, the water tank and both fuel tanks. The bilge tank can also be used for ballast. This makes the boat very stable and capable of handling any weather conditions. The engine exhaust is at the standard height of approx 2 m from the waterline so that water can’t enter and flood the engine. All these features make this boat seaworthy and with its large water and fuel tanks its journey range is wide. All European inland waterways are navigable due to its reasonably low head room.
Accommodation: There are 2 large berths in the bow beyond the galley and toilet. Further aft is a large engine room with the cockpit / cabin above. The cabin has a u-shaped sofa that can be converted into a double bed and this cabin also holds the indoor steering Moving still further aft is an open sundeck with a second, outside wheel. On the aft deck also there is access to the engine compartment and from is the entrance to the cabin aft that holds two berths. The cabin can also be accessed by a hatch in the roof.
All in all it is a very comfortable ship with an unusual but convenient layout. The seaworthiness of the ship and the beautiful big ship's engine in a spacious engine room makes it particularly attractive for technical buffs. The current owner has moved the engine exhaust to the transom and the smoke stack is no longer being used. However for marine use, this should be restored.
