Wauquiez Amphitrite 43' (1980) - Sold

The Future is a seagoing yacht built by Wauquiez and drawn by Ronald Pye. She is designed for sailing over the oceans. She possesses all the comfort, space, reliability, power and security of a true ocean-going sailing yacht. There are two independent cabins with two bathrooms on either side of the main cabin and teak has been chosen for the panelling material. There is also a large centre cockpit and a panoramic view in the large aft cabin.  A real long distance sailor! The Future has a very strong hull and superstructure. Lots of living and storage space and good navigation equipment such as radar, GPS and AIS. Furthermore there is a bow thruster and generator on board. Fully equipped with a workbench in the very deep galley (garage). In short: a perfect cruiser with comfortable accommodation for 6 to 10 people on board.

 

Classic

A classically lined ship with a continuous keel and the rudder directly behind the keel. The ship has a beautiful line with a low continuous cabin superstructure, a fold-away sprayhood for the sliding hatch. This gives a good shelter in the centre cockpit while the view remains good. There is a large aft cabin, the stern is wide with a lot of buoyancy, so that high waves running behind do not roll into the cockpit. A ship with a long keel can lie down well in a storm and can drive out of the storm with a small sail without further effort from the crew. This is an important factor for a solo and long-distance sailor. The Future remains very tolerant with the sail lining, the ship remains manageable even before reefing in strong winds.

 

The sail lining

The sail lining is a standard sealant. Because of the balanced sail lining and long keel, the ship stays on course and seldom comes out of the rudder. The cutterstay has been replaced by a second furling genoa to be able to set a storm jib in heavy weather. The 2nd furling also serves to hoist a second genoa (jib) on windward courses and a spinnaker pole to be able to haul out one of the two furling genoa's before the wind. The mainsail is equipped with a third reef so that it can still be sailed at wind force 8-9. There is also a trysail, which can be hoisted above the mainsail with two shots to blocks on the aft bollards (without using the boom).

 

The engine

The original perkins engine was replaced a few years ago by a 70Hp Vetus engine. Manoeuvring in harbours can be done well with short powerful thrusters in combination with the bow thruster.

 

Comment broker: Well-designed ship with large interior space which makes a longer stay possible. Engine, sails, hull penetrations and hoses have recently been renewed, teak deck needs attention.
