Outborn 52 (1996, launched 2001)

Outborn 52 (1996, 2001) - Sold

This special aluminium vessel was designed by the famous ship designer from Berlin, Peter Rommel as the biggest yacht in the Outborn yacht series made by the now defunct Outborn yard in Harlingen. Despite the length of 16 meters, this ship can be sailed single handedly  because much of the heavy lifting has been taken over by technology. A large hydraulic pump rolls out and rolls up the sails and the same pump ensures that the draft can vary from 4m to 1.60m. Typical  of the Outborn  is the weighted centreboard, the boat has  two rudders and bilge keels which enables the boat to remain upright when  dry landing. The two "normal" Volvo Penta engines and dual saildrives can turn this ship on its axis.

Due to its length and beam  there is plenty of space inside. Starting fore there is a workshop - possibly convertible to double berth. Further aft there is a cabin to port with two superimposed berths and starboard galley lengthways with all appliances. Continuing aft there is a pilot’s berth and a large chart table. The deck saloon has a fine view all round and can seat quite a few people. Under the cockpit there is a large owner's cabin with a heads compartment, large sofa and double bed. As you would expect on a luxury yacht such as this, there is comprehensive technical equipment on board, including air conditioning in the owner's cabin.

Sailors also come into their own; It’s a relatively light boat with water ballast and a ballasted keel, two bilge keels and a massive amount of sail. Much of it is driven by the hydraulic system, and only by the jib needs to be winched in by hand using the large winches. Obviously, this modern ship is fast and comfortable, able to make fast crossings. The vessel is rarely used and will be completely serviced before delivery and provided with a new foresail.

Broker’s comments: A good and fast aluminium sailing ship. Low maintenance, spacious and suitable for making longer trips with a small crew. A comprehensive technical installation keeps the boat running smoothly, even single handed, but doesn’t use complex technology. Everything is accessible and in the event of any malfunction, the boat can also be operated manually. In short: an ideal ship to spend long periods of time on. The current owner has  brought the ship – long unused - back into a fully operational state. The interior shows some marks of watering.
